A short 30 minute ride from Millennium Park and Navy Pier will take you along Lake Michigan beaches and into the wild. Lincoln Park Zoo & Gardens is a 35-acre zoo situated in the affluent neighborhood Lincoln Park. The zoo was founded in 1868, making it the fourth oldest zoo in North America. It is also one of a few free admission zoos in the United States.

Easy 30 minute ride from Millennium Park and Navy Pier but give yourself 2-3 hours to enjoy it.

Lakefront Trail – South

Chicago’s Lakefront Trail is 18.5 miles of bicycle and pedestrian path along Lake Michigan stretching all the way from the south to north side of the city. The lakefront trail is full of amazing views, beaches and parks. It also connects you to the best attractions in the city and to Chicago’s diversified neighborhoods.  

Starting from Millennium Park or Navy Pier, the south trail goes for about 10 miles.

Round trip is 20 miles but you don’t have to ride the entire trail in one day. A good 1-2 hours round trip is to Museum Campus and back.

Best skyline view from the Planetarium

Museum Campus sits alongside Lake Michigan in Grant Park and encompasses five of the city’s most notable attractions: the Adler Planetarium, America’s first planetarium; the Shedd Aquarium; the Field Museum of Natural History; Soldier Field, home of the NFL Chicago Bears football team; and the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place. Museum Campus sits adjacent to Northerly Island along the waterfront.

A short ride from Navy Pier (2 miles) and Millennium Park (1.5 miles) along the Lakefront Bike Path will take you to Museum Campus. Buckingham Fountain is a must see attraction along the way. Once at Museum Campus make sure to checkout the skyline view from the Planetarium.

Hyde Park & Japanese Garden

Hyde Park is located 7 miles from downtown and is home to the University of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry, Osaka Japanese Garden, Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House, and the Barack Obama Presidential Center which is currently under construction in Jackson Park.

The 606 – Bloomingdale Trail

The Bloomingdale Trail is a 2.7-mile (4.3 km) elevated linear park running east–west on the northwest side of Chicago. It is the longest greenway project of a former rail line in the Western Hemisphere, and the second longest in the world, after the Promenade plantee linear park in Paris. In 2015, the City of Chicago converted the former Bloomingdale Line into an elevated greenway, which forms the backbone of the rail trail and the trail network called The 606. The Bloomingdale Trail elevated park is in the Logan Square, Humboldt Park, and West Town neighborhoods.

From Millennium Park its about 4 miles to get there, a quick 30 minute ride. The trail itself is about 3 miles.

In total 14 miles round trip.

You can either take the CTA train or ride back to Millennium Park.

South Beach

Vizcaya, Coconut Grove & Coral Gables

Vizcaya is a beautiful Italian Renaissance-style villa surrounded by 10 acres of tranquil gardens, shoreline, mangrove swamps, and tropical forest. Completed in 1920, Vizcaya has been the setting for many movies, social events, weddings, and photo shoots (and is next door to Madonna’s house). From Vizcaya you have the option to return by train (part-way) to Mary Brickell Village, or you can continue riding south to Coconut Grove, a lovely village with Banyan trees, chic boutiques, trendy cafes, and the famous CocoWalk outdoor mall. Past the Grove is a beautiful ride to the Fairchild Tropical Gardens – make sure to visit Matheson Hammock Beach, often called “paradise beach”. Return via train from the University of Miami Rail Station. If you are looking for a challenging ride, continue south on Old Cutler Road to the Everglades.

Little Havana

Little Havana is the social, cultural, and political center for many Cuban Americans. To get a taste of the Cuban lifestyle, visit one of the many authentic Cuban restaurants, the El Credito Cigar Factory, Domino Park, and St. John Bosco Catholic Church. If you are lucky and happen to be in town during the Calle Ocho (8th Street) festival, you will enjoy a spectacular Cuban Carnival – you and one million friends will enjoy an amazing celebration. Make sure you practice your Merengue and Salsa steps.

Key Biscayne Island

Key Biscayne is home to some of the best beaches in South Florida, and the bike trails are a cyclist’s paradise! On the way to the island you’ll ride over the Rickenbacker Causeway and enjoy stunning oceanfront views! Stop to say hi to the dolphins at the Miami Seaquarium, or visit the Fossil Reef Overlook in Crandon Park. Continue to Cape Florida State Park and roll down to the tip of Key Biscayne where a national treasure awaits: the Cape Florida Lighthouse. Don’t forget your swimsuit and camera!

Wynwood, one of the Miami’s most vibrant neighborhoods, is renowned for its abundance of magnificent artwork. The Wynwood Walls outdoor gallery features large-scale pieces by some of the most well-known street artists in the world. Formerly an industrial district, Wynwood has transformed surrounding neighborhood’s streets into craft breweries and stunning art displays.  The area’s premium shops, classy bistros, and late-night bars serves as a gathering spot for many young and hip crowds. Murals that cover the walls of building makes Wynwood a place worth visiting.
