According to new research via nerdwallet, American citizens’ views have placed Miami on a top 10 list of “America’s Greenest Cities.” A 2014 poll by the Pew Research Center finds that the majority of Americans believe the environment is a priority.
So what did Miami do to put itself in the running? Encouraging car pooling is the first mentioned! On an unforgettably bigger scale, its $550 million Energy Retrofit Fund which was revealed in 2011 and aims to encourage citizens to pursue renewable energy and energy efficient upgrades. We’ve got a long way to go and certainly we’re doing much better in raising awareness for the environment than the city was doing 10 years ago though jump starting programs like these is a great way to go!
The city will also trade you up to three of your used bulbs for three energy efficient ones; and will also trade your showerhead fixture for a better one!
Our personal favorite reason that Miami can be considered green here at Bike and Roll is because of the bike groups!! Critical Mass on the last Friday of the month, Magic Mondays on, you guessed it –Mondays, and so many dozens of other group rides culminate into what we feel is the sign of a healthy city.
